Audition Age Guidelines:

Evita

Principal Cast- All performers must be ages 16 and older.

Youth Ensemble- All performers must be ages 8-15. 

(age requirements are by the time of the show)

The Little Mermaid

Principal Cast- All performers must be ages 16 and older.

Youth Ensemble- All performers must be ages 8-15. 

(age requirements are by the time of the show)

Fairy Tale Theater

Theater by young people for young people.

Performances are Four Saturdays in July and August.

All performers must be ages 8-15.

Specific Youth Audition Details:

Youth Auditions

Evita & The Little Mermaid 

Saturday, April 12th,10:00am - 12:00pm

(All performers must be ages 8-15) 

Audition sign ups begin at 9:30.

At 10:00 am, in groups, you will be learning a song -

and then you will individually sing the song.

You may be asked to stay to dance and/or read.

Please bring any conflicts.

Performers ages 12-15 

may audition for Flounder at this time.

If auditioning for Flounder, please prepare a Disney song, 

but not one from The Little Mermaid.

Your selection should be no more than one minute in length, 

and depending on time, you may be asked to perform 

only a 32 bar cut.

Specific Audition Details:

Fairy Tale Theater

Saturday, April 12th, 10:00am - 12:00pm

(For performers ages 8-15)

Upon arrival, auditioners will receive a brief monologue to read and perform.

Auditioners will also perform a scene with other actors from provided sides.

Roles will be rotated so everyone can try each part. 

No need to prepare anything - 

just bring your energy and have fun exploring the material!

All roles are speaking roles in this acting-centric program.

While no solo singing is required, auditioners may sing an audition song if they wish, as we might add musical moments to the season.

This season's play selection is being finalized but will include Cinderella, The Wizard of Oz, Hansel and Gretel, 

and several folktales from outside of Europe. 

Performances will be held on four consecutive Saturday mornings (July 12 - August 2), 

with a new play prepared and performed each week.

Specific Adult Audition Details:

Evita & The Little Mermaid  

All performers must be ages 16 and older

Please prepare selections, one ballad and one uptempo, 

in the style of the show(s) you are auditioning for. If you are auditioning for The Little Mermaid, please prepare Disney style songs, but not songs from The Little Mermaid itself.

You may choose to sing from Evita, though it is not always recommended, depending on how “specifically” the actor wants to be seen. Singing a selection from a similar style, or based on character type, gives directors/music directors a chance to make an open decision based on a number of available roles to fill. 

If you are auditioning for BOTH shows, 

bring a selection from one song that reflects the style of 

Evita, and one that reflects The Little Mermaid. 

Please bring sheet music in a binder for the accompanist 

that shows your abilities and range. 

Please bring sheet music in your proper key, 

with your audition cuts marked. 

An accompanist will be provided:

please, no recorded accompaniment or a cappella singing.

Selections should be no more than one minute in length, 

and depending on time, you may be asked to perform 

only a 32 bar cut.  

Those auditioning should also be prepared to, if asked, 

to learn a short general dance combination.

You may be asked to read, and if so, 

sides will be provided at the audition.

If you are auditioning for Eva or Che you may be asked to sing 

Oh What a Circus or A New Argentina 

You may be asked to come for a callback on 

Sunday April 13th from 3:00pm - 5:00pm, 

however this may not be necessary. 

Being called back or not being called back does not indicate 

casting in any way, but may be used as needed 

to clarify the director’s thoughts in casting.

technical (lights/sound) and running crew, along with 

front-of-house operations such as ushering and concessions.

There are internships available for credit or service hours.

2025 Musicals at Richter Guidelines 

Please take a moment to review the information below.

1. Musicals at Richter (MAR) is Connecticut’s longest running outdoor theater with all performances and most rehearsals outside. If you are cast, please come prepared to spend time outside (ex. bring water, sunscreen, bug spray, umbrellas...)
In the event of rain on a show night, the MAR Board will decide whether or not to cancel the show and the cast will be notified. 

2. MAR is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that depends on the support of its members and volunteers to help bring our season under the stars to life. If you are cast, you will be asked to contribute to our team in the following ways: 

 a) Cast members volunteer their time and are not paid a salary.

 b) Cast members are expected to volunteer at Tech Days! There is a Tech Day for each Main Stage production, days to open and close the season and for the Youth Workshop productions. Ways of helping can range from cleaning the Richter house to set building and painting. 

 c) On dress rehearsals and performance nights, cast members will take turns with assigned duties for the show to ensure that the Richter house and grounds are maintained. 

3. All cast members will sign an actor’s contract with Musicals at Richter which covers the rules and responsibilities. 

4. All cast members are required to become a member of Musicals at Richter, and pay their dues in a timely manner.

5. Bios must to be provided by the given deadline for inclusion in the playbill. 

6. Publicity photos will be taken for each show. Photos may be used by MAR for advertising the show as well as general promotion of the MAR organization (ex. use in flyers, the website, etc.) 

7. Rehearsals for each show run approximately 8 weeks followed by 3 weeks of performances. We ask that you inform us in advance of any potential scheduling conflicts. Participation at all dress rehearsals and all performances is mandatory.

8. Scripts will be made available on an as needed basis. You will be asked to provide a $25 check made out to MAR as a deposit. Your deposit will be returned to you at the end of the show when your script is returned in the condition in which it was received (any markings must be made in pencil and erased). 

9. MAR follows all CDC guidelines and recommendations. At this moment, there are no vaccination requirements for cast, crew, or patrons. We ask that you are considerate to your fellow cast & crew members, and if you do not feel well, please notify us and take appropriate precautions. This policy is subject to change.
